Welcome to Saitama University!
This is a pre-arrival information for new SP students. Read all the following carefully and prepare for your new life in Japan!
In particular, details about the JASSO scholarship can be found ”2. Scholarship”.

1.ACCEPTANCE LETTER

The acceptance letter has already been sent by email. We ask you to check the file to see if there are no correction to be made(spelling of name or DoB etc.). And we request that you confirm with the embassy that the acceptance letter must be the original hard copy. Please report these two points from the URL below by March 30th(Japan time).

2.Scholarship

SP students will be provided with a scholarship by JASSO. Recipients will be selected based on the following criteria. However, the premise is that this scholarship must be accepted by JASSO in the following year as well.

Students NOT affiliated with universities and countries designated by our university also have the opportunity to receive this scholarship.
If you wish to receive the scholarship, you are asked to complete the forms below by March 30th(Japan time).

Recipients will be selected and informed by April 25th

.THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE

●Apply for your  tourist Visa

We have already sent the necessary application documents for those who require a visa to enter Japan. Please proceed with the necessary procedures to obtain a visa before entering Japan.

●Travel Insurance

Japanese government is requiring all new incoming foreign nationals to obtain a minimum of 2-week overseas insurance. Therefore, we ask all students to purchase an overseas insurance, covering from the day of their departure up to entire study period

●What to Bring :  We advice you to bring your daily items as much as possible, including the following.

 ・Thermometer (mandatory)   ・Laptop computer    ・Body Towels & Hand Towels    ・Hairdryer*  ・Credit card     ・Cash (at least 50,000JPY)        

      * Type of plug available in Japan  :     ○ Type A       × Type B

●SIM card

You need a Japanese SIM card to use the internet in Japan.  We recommend  that you get a tourist SIM card that can be used for one month before departure or after arrive at the airport in Japan.

5.AFTER ARRIVAL : Orientations 

*Attendance at the orientation is mandatory.

Orientations such as Registration Orientation, Student Life Orientation, and home-stay Orientation will be conducted after your arrival.

8.ACADEMIC SYSTEM

Grades will not be calculated in this program; 2 credits will be awarded to those who meet the requirements.

【Conditions for receiving credit】
 ・Attend at least two-thirds of all classes.
 ・Participate in the final presentation.

9.EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

We have prepared a variety of extracurricular activities for summer program students. Details of these events will be announced in the future.

SU Language Exchange

This program is a place to enjoy real communication while teaching each other about native languages ​​and cultures. Experience the “joy of communication” that you can’t get from a classroom.
June 27th TBD Sword fighting experience “Sword fighting” is a familiar sight in Japanese period dramas and anime. It is not simply an action scene, but a traditional performing art of “dialogue” in which you read your opponent’s breathing and match your movements. The process of learning the “kata” (forms) of sword stance and footwork is a valuable opportunity to discover the Japanese spirituality and aesthetic sense.
